Home Chemical Peels - Which is Best for you?
As you've probably guessed, At Home Chemical Peels are the most popular products we sell at MUAC. Our variety is extensive and so we know you're asking, which one do I choose?
Well, that will depend on your skincare issues and your goals. So we have provided an intro to chemical peels and a helpful guide below...
What Is A Chemical Peel And How Does It Work?
Home chemical peels are superficial exfoliants that either gently or more aggressively remove dead skin cells and "goopy dirt" from the surface of the skin, aka the epidermis, which is also responsible for skin tone.
Deeper peels go beyond the epidermis and can help to diminish visible skin issues that begin more deeply into the layers of the skin such as wrinkles and scars, or clogged hair follicles and sweat glands, which often result in deeper kinds of acne.
Properly chosen chemical peels can refine your skin texture and skin tone by refining the look of pores, fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and discoloration. Home chemical peels can help your skin to look younger and more luminous.
Some chemical peels will simply exfoliate without visible peeling (superficial, light peels) while others will provide varying degrees of peeling (medium, deep), depending on your skin type, the strength of the peel, and peel type.
Getting Started with Home Chemical Peels...
Chemical peels are effective for anti-aging benefits, to improve acne and acne scars, minimize pores, loosen blackheads, improve sun-damaged skin, improve the appearance of stretch marks, fade age spots, and general hyperpigmentation. Alpha Hydroxy Peels
Mandelic Acid
An alpha hydroxy acid derived from the bitter almond nut. This is a gentle acid because of its large molecule. It exfoliates the skin with very little topical discomfort. It is excellent for inhibiting the formation of brown spots, and hyperpigmentation.
This gentle acid will not cause unwanted lightening of the skin in customers with darker skin tones. Improve acne, melasma, sun damaged skin, large pores, blackheads, wrinkles, dull, sallow skin. Our 25% Mandelic Aid peel will cause little-to-no peeling, while our 40% may cause some light flaking for most clients. Contraindications: Do not use if you have nut allergies.
Available in: 25% and 40% peels
Lactic Acid
Milder than glycolic acid, and typically better for working on discoloration, our formulation contains licorice extract, an effective skin lightening additive. Appropriate for dry skin or oily skin. An alpha hydroxy acid, this is a great "first peel" for oily, dry, normal and sensitive skin types.
The inherent properties of this peel make it ideal for clients with uneven skin tones and general hyperpigmentation. Some light flaking in most cases that becomes more visible as you increase the strength. Contraindications: Do no use if you have milk allergies.
Available in: 40%, 55%, and 65% peels
Glycolic Acid
A bit more aggressive than lactic acids, this is also an alpha hydroxy peel and will exfoliate the outer layers of your skin. Glycolic acid is a good all-around acid for normal-oily skin types to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin, as well as addressing the issues of acne, acne scarring, wrinkles, and fine lines. 30% typically rapidly exfoliates the skin without much visible peeling/flaking... stronger glycolic acid peels may cause some flaking. The stronger the glycolic acid peel, the more flaking or peeling you may see.
Available in: 30%, 40%, 50%, and our versatile adjustable 70% peels
Beta Hydroxy Peels
Beta Hydroxy Serum
This is a mini peel that has a salicylic acid base and is amazing to control oily skin, acne, blackheads and whiteheads. Can be used 3-4 times per week to deep clean your pores and keep deeply embedded sebum and dirt under control. Great as a first step for clients with very oily skin before trying our lactic and glycolic acid peels. This is an effective product that has been formulated at a safe percentage but with a low pH to ensure good quality acidity without irritation.
Oil soluble, thus making these acids perfect for oily/acne skin that needs deep pore cleansing and loosening of blackheads. Use this as a "first-step" when using alpha hydroxy acid peels to remove oils from the skin, or use alone 3-4 times per week for oil/blackhead control. A beta-hydroxy, this acid penetrates the upper layers of the epidermis only. For a stronger application, use our 15% salicylic acid peel once a week. Contraindications: Do not use if you have allergies to aspirin products.
Combo Peels
Used to rejuvenate and beautifully exfoliate the body, this peel uses a proprietary blend of acids that include: Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Citric Acid and Salicylic Acid. Total acid content is 33%. Wonderful for skin exfoliation, deep cleansing of pores and dirt on the body, fade acne or ingrown hair scars, reduce ‘crepe paper’ skin, brighten skin and give a youthful glow.
A potent peel that is appropriate for all skin type discolorations but not recommended to start with if you have sensitive skin (try the Fade Serum first). This is an excellent product to fade acne marks, age spots, melisma, and sun-damaged skin. Using a proprietary blend of Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Kojic Acid and Malic Acid, this peel can also help even-out skin tones, deep cleanse pores, revive and brighten skin tone and revive texture, soften lines, wrinkles and scars, and resolve general hyperpigmentation issues. This peel is especially superior at exfoliation and perfect if you have no down-time needed for stronger peels.
This peel is a lovely blend of alpha and beta acids at 15% Mandelic Acid and 15% Salicylic Acid. Specially formulated to address issues such as: post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, general hyperpigmentation particularly from acne marks and scarring, and inhibit the growth of melanin (the cause of brown patches, freckles, uneven skin tone and other sun-related skin care issues). Useful for rapidly exfoliating dead skin cells and surface debris, which makes this peel an excellent choice for all types of acne, including cystic acne. Excellent for clients with darker skin tones, as it does not cause the lighter skin tone changes that might occur with other AHA's
TCA Peels
Deeper peeling class of acids excellent for improving the look of acne, lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, stretch marks, sun damage, lip lines, age spots, and general scarring. Longer lasting results, more intensive. Not advised for darker skin tones, as it may cause unwanted skin darkening. Please consult with our skincare professionals to determine which strength would be best for you.
Available in:
Pre-mixed - 12.5%, 15%, and 18%
Adjustable - 30% (recipes included to mix a fresh peel with varying strengths... extremely versatile and our most popular TCA peel)
A superficial peel with exfoliating properties, this is a peel you’ll leave on overnight and is desirable for skin types that cannot tolerate AHA's. Derived from rice, this product is excellent for anti-aging, skin smoothing, brightening, and general discolorations. If you suffer with breakouts, you will see improved skin clearing. Those with discoloration will see fading of those areas and brighter skin.
A traditional peel that is typically layered until it frosts, using 14% salicylic, 14% lactic acid, and 14% resorcinol. This peel is ideal for clients with cystic acne, back acne, oily acneic skin types, combination skin types prone to occasional breakouts, and sun-damaged skin and utilizes both alpha and beta hydroxy acids. This peel will sting significantly on the skin and produce visible peeling for most clients. Contraindications: Do not use if you have allergies to aspirin products.
At home microdermabrasion without a machine. Our Micro Polish, made with licorice root and mulberry fruit extracts, antioxidants and vitamins, offers you an upgraded manual skin polishing using the same crystals used during professional microdermabrasion treatments. Refine skin's overall texture by gently polishing the skin to a smooth, clear, brighter finish. Extremely effective as an exfoliator between your chemical peel applications and a 5 star best seller!
